The Sea Under My Palm (掌の下の海)
The Sea Under My Palm
(掌の下の海)
ー From the poetry collection of 17-year-old Tadami Yamada, 1962 ー
by Tadami Yamada
The sea being in commotion
Under my palm, the burning sea
Feeling alluring mysterious dark smells
O I'll try to penetrate my finger fertility
Which keeps remote ages secret still now!
Waves roll on a creek where my finger is standing on
As if it seems to be angered, or to grieve
Also to fly in the air
O pale face of the sea!
'cause it's that both rejoicing & distress are so deep
Black algae on the shore!
Don't become in brown like repentance
Must be a function as tender bedclothes
As the sea is the symbol of my love
Dyeing loneliness on my palm, let me go!
To scatter the fertile field with seeds of hope
The sea! Be well-pleased My spirit in your abysmal deep!
